Another day, another Grand Theft Auto story but among all the stories, this is probably the most interesting, as this is the story all console fans want to hear: which console sold the most. According to Chart Track estimates, GTA IV first day sales were in a region of 609,000 beating the record set by GTA: San Andreas in 2004.
Along its way to beating San Andreas, GTA IV also beat Halo 3, the former Xbox 360 record holder for first day sales, by selling 335,000 units compared to Halo 3’s 266,000. It has also became Playstation 3’s fastest selling game, selling 274,000 units compared to Gran Turismo 5 prologue’s 80,000
So all in all Xbox comes up top but not by a huge margin, as some may have expected. Still, it could also be seen as an achievement as GTA has always been seen as a Playstation Game, so this can be seen as a victory.
