Epic President speaks out on the Wii
Posted by predator, 25 days ago Apr 21, 2008 14:57

After the enormous success that the Nintendo Wii has become, Its no stranger that 3rd party developers and publishers are flocking to the Wii like a moth to a flame to try and get a piece of the action, well not everyone is convinced and willing to develop for Nintendo’s console. Epic games, developers of the might Gears of War for the Xbox 360 and Unreal Tournament series, won’t be developing any games for it anytime soon.

Speaking to IGN, Epic Games President Mike Capp leaped some praise before explaining why Epic won’t be developing for it.

First of all, great credit to them. The first time I played a video game with my parents - aging myself a bit - was on Atari 2600. The next time I played a video game with my parents, 25 years later or whatever was Wii Tennis. So it’s about bringing people together, families, Thanksgiving, all that,"
Following this Mike Capp explains why he thinks the Wii is a “Virus”

"It’s a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they’re like, "Oh my God that’s so cool, I’m gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they’ve showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on,"

When IGN asked him if Epic will ever develop for the console, he said

No, we go forward, not back. It makes more sense for us to invest in the next-generation tech. it’s about as easy as PSP for us. Maybe it would make sense, but it makes more sense to invest going forward."

What are your thoughts, the readers, on Mike Capp’s comments? Do you believe that the Wii can handle the Unreal Engine or do you agree with what he is saying? Be sure to make you voice heard over at thegamereviews.com forums
