Shigeru Miyamoto, the man responsible for the majority of Nintendo’s innovative hit games and peripherals, recently dropped a hint that a new Zelda game is currently under development.
In an interview with 1up.com, Miyamoto claimed that “we do have the existing teams at Nintendo working on the kinds of products we’ve always made over the years. The Zelda team is forming again to work on new games!”
While this is a far cry from an official announcement from Nintendo, Miyamoto’s comments are telling of Nintendo’s commitment to fan-favorite franchises. Nintendo sold 4.3 million copies of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii last year, making it one of the console’s best-selling titles.
The prospect of a new title in the works should help reestablish excitement among hardcore gamers for the Wii, which is often considered a console geared more towards casual, mainstream gaming.
