Everybody’s favorite blue hedgehog seems to be making a comeback as the first details have begun to trickle in for what seems to be the games new title “Sonic Unleashed.”
Rumors were flying around yesterday after an apparent leak on a forum exposing a ton of Sonic Unleashed screenshots to the world. One thing that definitely strikes you when you see these shots is “wow!”
Although no platform has been announced for the game, but judging by the screenshots they must be from a 360/PS3 build, but knowing Sega don’t be surprised to see this on all major formats, as they try to kick some life into this, as of late, slacking series.
SEGA Europe today posted this official statement regarding Sonic Unleashed via SEGA magazine website:
“Sonic the Hedgehog returns for a full-blown, action-packed adventure through the desolate and unpredictable World of Mubuz, a world dictated by an evil Dragon Lord, Immarius. Upon entering Muboz, Sonic fights an evil power which turns all the inhabitants into dangerous beasts. “
-Become Wolf Sonic and fight enemies like never before using rapid combo maneuvers and Ring Energy
-Play as Sonic, Knuckles or Tails through 12 packed stages
-Extensive 2D gameplay brings the old Sonic back home”
This was later taken down off the website. Maybe SEGA is just waiting to see what the public’s reactions are, or maybe someone jumped the gun? Who knows?
So what do we know? Well it seems there are going to be 3 characters that we can play as; will this mean there will be an element of Co-op? If so, will it be online, offline or maybe even both? “Extensive 2D gameplay?” Does this mean SEGA is going back old school, to the days of Sonic 1, 2 or 3, and kicking out 3D altogether? What’s with this “Wolf Sonic?” How’s that going to play a part?
So many questions and as of yet no answers, but be sure to keep tuned to thegamereviews.com as we try and hunt down as much new info as we can on Sonic’s return.
What do you guys think? Do we need another Sonic after countless attempts to make another great platformer from the days of the Mega Drive and Dreamcast? Can SEGA rekindle the magic that was once called Sonic? Or should SEGA retire their Blue Hedgehog mascot? Let us know what you think in the forums.
