The organizers behind the United Kingdom’s Dare to be Digital 2008 announced today that massive media multinational Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. will be supporting this year’s Dare to be Digital event. Turner Broadcasting will be assisting the Dare to be Digital event by promoting its core mandate to provide young designers of computer games a place where they can compete and interact with each other. In addition, the University of Abertay Dundee, the initial supporters of the Dare event, announced that it will not only continue backing Dare but would increase the time and money the University would devote to it.
Peter Durrant, the Director of Dare to be Digital, stated on behalf of the Dare organizers that they were “absolutely delighted to be partnering with TBS this year” as “their support is a huge boost to our plans to raise £1 million to support Dare to be Digital for the next two years, and a measure of how seriously the contest is now regarded by major creative and media businesses around the planet.” Furthermore, Mr. Durrant stated that the planners behind the Dare event “plan to greatly increase the scope of this year’s competition, with almost twice as many students as in 2007, taking part in several host centres across the UK and perhaps even overseas as well.”
Also Casey Harwood, the Senior Vice President for Digital Media for Turner Broadcasting System Europe, stated that Turner itself was also “delighted to support Dare to be Digital and any initiative that fosters talent and diversity within our industry.” Mr. Harwood added that “this sponsorship presents us with yet another opportunity to build on our understanding of the format and the range of emerging digital platforms.”
