Just in case you were running out of things to do in Fallout 3 (and if that’s the case then you really should try sleeping a little, or eating, or bathing for that matter) Bethesda announced today the Microsoft exclusive DLC for the game. Three new packs will keep Xbox 360 and PC owners blasting through hordes of Super Mutants and Raiders until the irradiated, two-headed cows come home.
Operation: Anchorage, to be released in January, takes players back to the Chinese invasion and subsequent American liberation of Alaska, as alluded to in the game. We won’t spoil anything for those unfamiliar with the mythos, but this was once the stomping grounds for a giant robot, so it should be fun to check out this ruined city.
The Pitt is on tap for a February release and will whisk players off to the remnants of Pittsburg, PA, where Raiders have set up shop and basically run the show. Gamers will get to choose a side and either run the Raiders out of town or join in on their sadistic fun.
Finally, Broken Steel arrives in March and follows the Brotherhood of Steel as they mop up the last bits of Enclave resistance after the conclusion of the game’s main quest. Expect lots of hulking brutes in power armor duking it out to determine once and for all who’s king of the Wastes.
And if all that isn’t enough for you, Bethesda has also announced the release of the official Fallout 3 modding tools, cleverly codenamed GECK. The toolset will allow PC users to create their own levels and will be offered as a free download sometime next month. Massive Ghoul rush on a poorly defended Wastelander town? Super Mutant ambush against the heavily fortified Citadel? Brotherhood of Steel vs. Enclave in a huge battlefield assault? If you can dream it, you can make it when GECK launches in December.
So there you have it, enough new content to make an already massive game positively epic, and we’re not even sure if that’s the last of it. Keep in mind this only the Microsoft exclusive DLC, so Bethesda may have plans to add in other packs later that are available to all users that we haven’t even heard hints of yet. Now if only one of the packs raised the level cap; there are so many more perks I wish I could grab.
