While I would personally tell you to go out and pre-order Mirror’s Edge right now and pick it up at midnight on release day, there are still some out there who are not convinced. For those gamers, a nice demo would be the perfect way to decide whether or not they’re interested in the adventures of Faith, but it seems that they may have to wait a while, at least if GameStop is to be believed.
According to the retailer’s data sheet, anyone pre-ordering the game from GameStop will receive a special code that will allow them to access the game’s time trial mode in the demo. Unfortunately, the demo will not be available until November 6, less than a week before the game’s release date on Nov 11.
So what does this mean? Does the timing of the demo mean that EA doesn’t have faith in the game (no pun intended), or is that simply the earliest they could release it? What about games with demos coming out after the game’s launch, like the recent Mercenaries 2 trial? So what do you all think? Should demos be available well in advance of a game’s release so you get a solid grasp of it, or is it better to wait until the street date looms in order to drum up some last-minute hype?
