If you were to use one word to describe Fallout 3, it would be “massive”. So with this in mind, we were intrigued to learn more about the game’s scope from Pete Hines while attending E3 this year. He revealed that while the game map wouldn’t be as large as in Oblivion, you’ll be walking everywhere you go, making the world seem larger, and encouraging more interaction with the environment. Even early in the game, the nearest town is a solid 5-10 minute walk and that’s only if you already know where you are going. So with that in mind we would have understood if the Xbox 360 (and PC) exclusive DLC for Fallout 3 had been restricted to a few new missions and some weapon upgrades. But of course, this is the same company that brought you Oblivion, and they don’t just don’t do small. "I couldn’t even tell you right now what the DLC would be, but our plans are for substantial stuff, " said Hines. "The equivalent of things like Knights of the Nine for Oblivion, where it provides many hours of gameplay; not just a one-off thing of an item (or items) or a hangout, or things like that." As is characteristic of Bethesda, just when you think you’ve finished one of their games they keep piling on more... and boy do their customers seem to love it. Sadly, PS3 owners won’t get in on this cornucopia of bonus content, and will have to be satisfied with the Fallout universe as is. But while you may not see this content up on the PSN, Fallout 3 is promising to be a lot of value for the cost, and certainly an anticipated follow-up to the cult-classic Fallout 2. We think gamers on all platforms will enjoy the experience this game is promising to bring.
