Nintendo is refuting information that was relayed during an IGN podcast which stated that WiiWare, which allows independent game designers to create and market smaller games to Wii owners for lower prices, would not allow games larger then 40 MB, that the price of each game would be individually fixed by the developer of each game, and that only one game per month would be released. A Nintendo spokesman met with Eurogamer to formally explain what the company’s official stance on the WiiWare was:
"I can confirm as we originally said at the announcement of the Wii Ware service earlier in the year that Wii Ware games will come in a range of sizes but we will encourage smaller, more compact games for the service.” The Nintendo representative added that the company was “contemplating that developers will be able to release one game per month during the launch window in order for us to address potential volume issues.”
The spokesman also stated for the record that Nintendo has “not revealed any details about who sets pricing for Wii Ware titles. However it is important to remember that one of the keys aspects of the Wii Ware service is to allow everyone access to fresh, new content at a low price.”
Nintendo also issued a statement that it was classifying the information reported in the news cast as “speculation”. To listen to the IGN podcast in which this material appeared please click here: http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/834/834465p1.html
