I’m a little jealous of the attendees of the Paris GDC this week, as they have been privy to a number of announcements and exciting news that the rest of us have just been getting second hand. The latest juicy story comes from EA Sports executive producer David McCarthy, who went on record stating that the company is planning a line of sports-related peripherals for the Wii which will utilize the Wiimote in a number of new ways. McCarthy went on to say:
"Anything we put out for sports would enhance the experience. I can tease you a little bit. One of the things we’re doing is looking at just playing with the Wii remote in a different way, using a whole new peripheral that’s out there, kind of thing. So, basically enabling control for the user in a much different way."
So it sounds like Wii owners will be getting more bang for their buck next time they pick up a copy of Madden or Tiger Woods PGA Tour. Though I can’t see the need for a golf club "controller" when I can just tape my Wiimote to my five-iron and go to town. Of course, something smaller might result in less broken furniture...
