Well, we knew it couldn’t last forever and that GTA had to eventually stop being the number-one selling game at some point. Who knew though, that in the UK at least, Niko Bellic’s run at the top would not be terminated by some vengeful mafia ganster or shady traitor from his past, but rather a fedora-wearing action hero composed entirely of building blocks?
According to Chart-Track, LEGO Indiana Jones has claimed the top British sales spot, outpacing GTA IV by almost 3 to 1 margin. This ends GTA’s five week reign atop the charts, and marks LucasArts first top earner since LEGO Star Wars II debuted in 2006.
It looks like GTA may have even more competition on its hands in foggy London town, as Race Driver: GRiD, the latest project by Codemasters, was only 3,000 units behind in weekly sales.
There were a few other notable entries into this week’s top ten, with Ninja Gaiden II, Itagaki’s swan song with Team NINJA, debuting at number six, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, a traditional powerhouse in the UK, slipping to the fourth spot. One notable exception to the list is newcomer Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, which just missed the list and came in at number eleven.
Here’s the full rundown for those interested in knowing what our friends on the other side of the Atlantic are playing.
