I must say, since the release of Folding@Home, my PS3 has submitted nearly 400 completed units. To do that, however, I’ve needed to leave it running for weeks on end. This has caused a slow but significant drain on my huge TGR salary, one that I would have never caught were it not for this report from Choice Magazine.
The PS3 tops the chart, pulling in ten times as much energy as the Wii when powered on (not standby); leaving it on F@H for a full year would cost about $260, compared with a measly $25 for playing a solid year of WarioWare. Plasma TVs are also high on the list, costing you just over $230 for the year. Moral of the story? Turn off your console when you’re not using it. I’m just worried about Stanford: how will they cure cancer without me?
