Have you been searching high and low for a copy of Wii Fit? I know I have. In my laziness (which Wii Fit is meant to cure in miraculous fashion), I never bothered to put down a pre-order, and thus I’m left at the mercy of my local game store to try and find the only thing more elusive than the Wii itself. Oh sure, I could go on eBay and pay the ridiculously over-inflated prices, but I’d rather be fat and slightly less poor than skinny and utterly poor. However, I now have something other than my own malaise to blame the problem on, as industry analyst Michael Pachter believes the shortage of Wii Fit in America is due to our currently weak currency.Pachter claims that, "We’re seeing companies ignore their largest market simply because they can make a greater profit elsewhere."

Those obsessively tracking the game will no doubt know that the title has shipped four times as many copies to Europe as it has to the US, and when you consider conversion rates a game that retails for $90 in the states goes for the equivalent of $140 in the Old Country. Obviously, simple economics dictate that when you have a product that is hot regardless of region, then you ship more units to where you can make more money.

Pachter had a parting shot for those concerned about getting their hands of Wii Fit, saying not to worry because "Americans will be just as fat a few months from now." Well to that I say let’s all pull ourselves up by the bootstraps, kickstart this dozing economy and show those smelly Europeans who can kick ass. Shoot, we won’t even need Wii Fit when we’re done. Who’s with me? USA! USA! USA!
