Eurogamer has been informed by Ubisoft that their upcoming air combat game set in the “Clancy-verse” will allow users to boss their squadmates around with voice commands. Andrei Costin of Ubisoft, who was demonstrating the game at the recent UbiDays event, conceded that voice control would be present, but unfortunately gave no further details as to how the feature will work, or what the specific commands will be.
Costin also mentioned the game will allow for seamless co-op play, but said full multiplayer details will not be available until HAWX’s holiday 2008 release draws closer. He expressed hope that the multiplayer, and inclusion of voice commands will bring home the “camaraderie” and spirit between pilots, much like the pre-crazy Tom Cruise flick Top Gun. Hopefully these emotional relationships with AI pilots, whose chatter appears in the upper right-hand portion of the HUD, will have gamers welling up during a dogfight, screaming “GOOOOOOSE!!” into their headsets.
